Sunset over I-4

The reflective building known as the Eye-sore on I-4, served as a reflective element to this vibrant Florida sunset.

The Springs Theatre

The Springs Theatre

The Springs Theatre Studio in Tampa is a building hard to pass by (especially with a camera in the car). The Springs is a full service audio/video production facility featuring a 7,000 square foot sound stage.

The Plaza Statue

The Plaza Statue

Tuan Nguyen, a former captive in a Vietnamese concentration camp, created this piece, one of many public artworks in downtown Orlando.

Rosalind and Pine

Rosalind and Pine

This image reminds me of the importance of letting go. I set out late afternoon to get a sunset over downtown Orlando. On my way, I noticed the clouds over downtown. I turned to my husband and said we should just turn around - I wasn't going to be able to get the sunset picture I wanted. My husband encouraged me to continue and this is my favorite photo from that outing. The dramatic rain-filled clouds made the picture!

Mouse Power Tower

Mouse Power Tower

Leaving out "The Mouse" from a photography project of Central Florida would be foolish. Since my work is Interstate adjacent, I felt like this power tower in the shape of Mickey Mouse was too sweet to pass up...literally!

Church Street Bridge

Church Street Bridge

2009-10 Church Street, like the rest of the country, was feeling the economic downturn from the collapse of the housing market. A once thriving and vibrant corridor of bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues was vacant with very few businesses able to wait out the downturn.

Reflections of History

Reflections of History

This wooden sculpture of the american flag was on display at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery in Sanford. Reflected in the starts and stripes is the Historic Sanford Welcome Center which also showcases emerging artist in their own gallery.

Gathering at Lake Monroe

Gathering at Lake Monroe

Lake Monroe is one of the lakes that make up the St. Johns River system. The port city of Sanford is situated along the southern shore, while DeBary and Deltona are located along the northern shore.

Yellow House

Yellow House

This yellow house in an historic African-American community of Eatonville, was lit up by the setting sun. The Eatonville water tower and the cloudless blue sky made for a beautiful backdrop for this traditional ranch-style Florida home.

Downtown Orlando Reflection

Downtown Orlando Reflection

Early morning in downtown Orlando. A passing storm left too many puddles to ignore.

Anderson Street Entrance Ramp

Anderson Street Entrance Ramp

The new overpass on Anderson street gives a previously unseen perspective of the downtown Orlando and the interstate.

Airstream Ranch

Airstream Ranch

The picture that almost wasn't. I had tried many times to take a picture of these scene, in Dover Florida (just north of Tampa). Persistence paid off, when the light, sky, and weather finally allowed me to take the image I had seen so many times in my head.

Daytona Beach Couple

Daytona Beach Couple

Interstate-4 ends in Daytona. Daytona Beach the go to location for Spring Breakers, as well as Bike Week and those craving the fast-paced sport of Nascar. Which is why this quiet moment shared by an older couple on Daytona Beach's boardwalk was too sweet to pass up.

Lakeland Farmers Market

Lakeland Farmers Market

Farmers Markets can be found up and down the Interstate's run. This photo of vegetable vendor, Pedro, was taken as he sorted through the beans that would soon be sold.

Fresh Corn

Fresh Corn

Fresh Corn wagon was visible from the Interstate. The dramatic sky and Auberdale's water tower made the photograph more interesting.

Sanford Exit Ramp

Sanford Exit Ramp

I like to photograph the Interstate as a graphic element that cuts through Central Florida. Winding north than south, and ultimately running from Florida's east to west coast.

Community Pool

Community Pool

I have fond memories of photographing this pool in Davenport, Florida. I was with my mentor and friend, Rick Lang. I was drawn to the newly painted mural of killer whales in the community pool. The juxtaposition of the pools surroundings added to the overall feel of the image.

Dinosaur World Exit

Dinosaur World Exit

Dinosaur World is a chain of three dinosaur theme parks located in Texas, Kentucky, and this one in Plant City, Florida. The parks each feature over 150 life-size dinosaur sculptures created by Christer Svensson. The dinosaur sculptures themselves are made carved polystyrene foam covered with fiberglass, then putty is textured and painted as skin. Each dinosaur is made on location. About three new dinosaurs are added annually, with other older statues getting much needed care in between.

They read as follows: “A nation united can never be conquered.” Thomas Jefferson “Give me liberty or give me death.” Patrick Henry “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” John F. Kennedy “We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.” Abraham Lincoln

Lake Monroe Bridge

Lake Monroe Bridge

Lake Monroe Bridge, built in 1933 as a replacement for a manually operated wooden bridge (tolled until 1926). The bridge was a Warren-Truss Swing bridge. Construction of the bridge provided economic relief to the region during the Great Depression, and the tourism it facilitated provided further relief. When Interstate 4 was built in the late-60s it provided temporary relief for the Lake Monroe Bridge, which proved to be crucial after the opening of Walt Disney World southwest of Orlando.

The historic African-American community of Eatonville is on the west side of the lake and the upper middle-class neighborhood of Lake Sybelia is on the west side of the lake. Over time, the lake's identity has been associated with the Maitland community and most Floridians know this lake by the incorrect name of Lake Sybelia.
